Y-HPC 2.0 installs 5 main components to the head node: Y-HPC GUI, Y-HPC daemon, Ganglia (as of v2.0), a set of basic node images, and a set of boot files.
Y-HPC GUI
The GUI supplies a graphical interface to the system. It allows configuration of the daemon as well as node setup and a quick view of node status.
Y-HPC daemon
The core Y-HPC component. It runs at all times on the head node and manages all communication and control between the head node and the compute nodes, as well as between the head node and a GUI if one is running.
Ganglia
Y-HPC uses Ganglia as a means of monitoring "life signs", reporting information to update the graphical interface.
Node Images
The provided node images are a minimal installation of only those packages required for a compute node. Currently provided are 2 images: ppc64 (Apple G5) and PS3. Forthcoming are node images for generic x86_64 machines, the IBM JS2x series systems, and the IBM/Mercury Cell blades (ie: QS20/21).
These may be copied and modified to produce node images for various roles. As they are stored in an unpacked format, it is possible to chroot into each and customize as though they were a live system.
Boot Files
The files provided in the yhpc-bootfiles-* rpms are necessary for proper network boot and startup of the compute nodes.
