Y-HPC User Guide

Bring-up Y-HPC
This page assumes Y-HPC is already installed and running.
  1. Check to make certain the Y-HPC daemon is running, as root:
ps aux | grep "python" [ENTER]
... and look for a line which contains "/usr/lib/yhpc/daemon.pyc".

  2. If the Y-HPC daemon is not running, as root:
    service yhpcd start [ENTER]
This will start the Y-HPC daemon which configures and starts your DHCP, TFTP, and Rsync servers.
NOTE! This action will overwrite /etc/dhcpd.conf and /etc/rsyncd.conf and create /etc/init.d/tfpd if it does not already exist.

  3. Launch the Y-HPC Main window. From the command line, as root:
    yhpcgui [ENTER]
  4. Select DHCP Settings from the Edit menu. Configure to match the setup of your internal network (Head Node / Compute Node Network). Select "Apply" then "Ok". This will restart the DHCP server with the new settings. Note the temporary IP address range is used by Y-HPC to assign new nodes (those which have not yet been recognized by Y-HPC) a temporary IP address until rebooted.

  5. Netboot your nodes. See Netboot nodes for assistance with Apple G5, PS3, and generic x86 compute nodes.

  6. You may monitor the netboot progress via the Y-HPC Main Overview window or the Y-HPC Main Details window. If monitoring the Overview), you will notice a color change for each stage of reconstruction, as follows:
    Down
    Initializing
    Formatting
    rsyncing

    Rebooting
    Up
Now continue with Netboot nodes ...
