TERRA SOFT SHOWCASE

Benjamin Koger of McDaniel College, Information Services, writes "We have several faculty members that rely on file servers for classes in the labs. One class, in particular, was having trouble holding on to the mapped drive to the file server. I won't identify the OS, except to say that the majority of us here consider it to be inferior.

We replaced that fairly new, fast machine with a PowerPC 7300 running Yellow Dog Linux and did not have any problems after. Unfortunately it is only a temporary measure: the PowerPC only has a 4 Gig hard drive and half of that is partitioned for the MacOS. Out of all the OS's I have used, Unix, mainstream, or alternative, Linux has proved to be the fastest, most stable, and most configurable.

Thank you for all os your work in advancing Linux on the PowerPC. We can loook at a pile of old Power Macs and instead of seeing a pile of machines that can't run OS X, we see redundant servers."
