POWER PC OEMS USE YDL

Yellow Dog Linux Board Support Package
Launched by Motorola, Freescale Semiconductor has embraced the ATX PowerPC Genesi Pegasos II motherboard, the foundation for the Open Desktop Workstation as an OEM CPU evaluation board. At Freescale's request, Terra Soft completed in October of 2004 the official Board Support Package, offering a simple means of installing Linux.

The Yellow Dog Linux BSP included:
  • Bootable ISO (CD):
        - Image-based installer.
        - Independent rescue disk.

  • Guide to Installation.
  • 2.6.8 kernel source tree.
  • parted w/Amiga fs support source tree.
  • Tested Sound, usb, firewire.

  • Pegasos II
    The Pegasos II offers the power of the AltiVec(TM) enabled PowerPC processor from Freescale Semiconductor in the world-wide motherboard standard ATX form-factor. The Pegasos II offers the following key features:
  • MicroATX motherboard (236 mm x 172 mm).
  • Open Firmware.
  • Discovery II MV64361 System Controller from Marvell.
  • PC2100 RAM, two sockets for 266MHz DDR .
  • AGP slot.
  • PCI subsystem with three 32bit, 33MHz slots, optional Riser Card.
  • IEEE1394 providing up to 400 Megabits of data bandwidth.
  • Gigabit Ethernet provided by the Discovery II (not yet supported by YDL).
  • 10/100 Megabit Ethernet using a VIA Rhine controller.
  • USB subsystem provided by the VIA 8231 chipset.
  • AC97 sound subsystem provided by the Sigmatel STAC 9766 codec.
  • S/PDIF optical digital audio connector.
  • ATA100 support with two channels for up to four ATA devices.
  • PS/2 connectors for use with standard PS/2 mice and keyboards.
  • Serial (RS232) port.
  • Parallel (Centronics) port.
