Printer Configuration

CUPS
The Common UNIX Printer Solution provides a portable printing layer for UNIX-based operating systems. It was developed by Easy Software Products and is now owned and maintained by Apple Inc. to promote a standard printing solution. It is the standard printing system in Mac OSX and most Linux distributions. CUPS uses the Internet Printing Protocol ("IPP") as the basis for managing print jobs and queues and adds network printer browsing and PostScript Printer Description ("PPD") based printing options to support real-world printing.

CUPS is as easy to use as it is to spell. There are 2 options:
  1. You may use the local Printer Manager:
YDL Menu ==> Applications ==> System Tools ==> Printing

  2. Or you may use the web browser interface which provides more control and advanced features:
Point your web browser to http://localhost:631
