Installing YDL 5.0.2 on JS2X

This guide is installing YDL on JS2X machines, this is done by a combination of booting off the CD/DVD and using a net install with a HTTP server

Level: Intermediate

Note: Please make sure that your Management Module is using the latest firmware to avoid complications with the JS2X series

Set-up the JS2X
  1. Insert the JS2X in the Blade Center
  2. Confirm that it is being correctly detected by the Blade Center by checking the management interface
  3. Fix any errors before continuing by consulting your documentation, your hardware vendor, or IBM directly
  4. Push the “CD” button on the blade to give it control of the media tray including the DVD/CD drive
Prepare for the installing
  1. Burn the YDL 5.0.2 DVD ISO to a DVD or burn the net install (DVDroot/images/boot.iso) to a CD
  2. Follow the Guide to setting up a HTTP server for net installing YDL 5.0.2
NOTE: This web server must be accessible by the blade you are installing on, the management module does not provide a link to the blades, you must have an appropriate switch installed
  3. Follow the Guide for activating and connecting to Serial over Lan (SoL)
    WARNING: Do not connect yet
Booting the JS2X into the Installer
  1. Log into the Blade Center Management interface
  2. In the Left Hand-panel under “Blade Tasks” Click “Power/Restart”
  3. Check the Box Next to the blade you wish to install on, Click “Power Off”
  4. In the Left Hand-panel under “Blade Tasks” Click “Configuration”

  9. Check the Box Next to the blade you wish to install on, Click “Power On”
Beginning the Install
  1. Connect to the blade you are installing on with SoL from the SoL guide
NOTE: It may be a few minutes until after the blade has started that SoL becomes ready to accept connections
  2. Once you see the “boot: “ prompt hit enter for text install with SoL or type “linux vnc” for installing over a VNC session
  3. Select Your Language
  4. At the “Installation Method” Screen select “HTTP”
  5. Select to use “eth0”, wth1 is reserve in the blade center for SoL
  6. Configure your Network settings
  7. At the “HTTP Setup” screen enter the address of your web server for “Web site name” and the sub-directory where the net install files are on that web server
NOTE: If the files are in the root of the web server you must enter “/”
  8. You should now be able to continue as a normal text install or VNC install
  9. While the install is running complete the following steps to avoid post-install reboot issues
  10. In the Left Hand-panel under “Blade Tasks” Click “Configuration”
